Digital products and downloads

You can attach private files to any product in your WEMASY webshop. After the customer pays, they download those files from the order page. Product photos on the Images tab stay public. Files on the Files tab do not.

Where to find it

Open the product switcher and select Webshop. Open Products, then create or edit a product. The Files tab sits next to Basic, Images, and SEO. See Adding products if you have not created a product yet.

Add downloadable files

  1. Open the product.
  2. Click Files.
  3. Upload one or more files under Downloadable files.
  4. Save the product.

You can add multiple files (up to 20). Buyers can download them after payment. Use this for an ebook, or for extras on a shipped product, such as a bike manual.

Digital product (skip shipping)

On the product form, turn on Digital product when the product is not shipped. Checkout then skips shipping method and shipping address, but only when every product in the cart is a digital product. Billing details stay required. See Shipping and tax settings.

Digital product does not control the Files tab. The tab is always there. A product can have files without being digital. A digital product can have no files.

Two common setups

  • PDF only. Turn on Digital product and upload the file on Files. Checkout will not ask for shipping.
  • Physical product with a file. Leave Digital product off and upload the file on Files. Checkout still asks for shipping. After payment, the buyer still gets the file.

A mixed cart (any shipped product plus a digital product) still requires shipping. After payment, files on every line still unlock.

How buyers get the files

Files unlock only after payment succeeds. Until then the order is visible and no download buttons appear.

After payment, buyers download from:

  • The order page. The confirmation email uses View order. The buyer may need to enter the invoice email. Each file shows a Download button. The email does not attach the file and does not include a direct file link.
  • The customer account. If you enabled customer accounts in webshop settings, a logged-in buyer opens that same order and sees the same Download buttons. See Webshop settings and payments.

Refunds

A refunded order loses download access. Download buttons disappear and further downloads are blocked.

What you see on an order

Open the order in Orders. Paid checkout orders that include files show a Downloadable files table: filename, download count, last downloaded, and whether access is Active or Revoked. Use this when a customer asks where their file is. See Managing orders and Orders, fulfillment, and quotes.

Supported file types

PDF, Word (DOC, DOCX), Excel (XLS, XLSX), PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX), ZIP, and images (JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, SVG).

Tip: Use Files for extras on a shipped product, such as a size chart or assembly guide. Leave Digital product off so shipping still applies.
